Old church in Lemona

The area around tekni art retreat is a rich source of creative inspiration for visitors. The lush vegetation and rolling hills in this region provide painters and others with a range of beautiful vistas. Over the centuries, Cyprus has been occupied by many different cultures, and the ruins and monuments in the area reflect this.

Things to see near tekni art retreat include:
•several deserted villages with picturesque ruins.
•monasteries such as Agia Moni, originally a nunnery and now the home of orthodox monks, and Panagia Chrysalaiotissa, once the site of a temple to the goddess Hera.
•the village of Pano Panagia, the birthplace of Archbishop Makarios, the bane of the British during the EOKA uprisings of the 1950s.
•the monastery of St Ephraim, who traveled from Egypt to establish it. Local myth has it that a prayer from the monk will ensure the fertility of a barren woman.
•a temple dedicated to the god Apollo not far from the village of Amargetti.

The village of Choulou, down the road from Lemona, is said to be the site of  King Peter’s palace in the fourteenth century (villagers say the ruins could be seen up until the early 1950s, when they were destroyed ‘in the name of progress’). Choulou is also home to a small mosque with a minaret.
